Hardly listened to mandarin music in 2008, and there weren't too many good releases, methinks. Could only squeeze out 11 songs. Shall find the time to listen to the rest of Jay Chou's, Tanya's and Fish's albums....

I would love to put him higher, but I had only 2 [not-exactly-very-good] songs to choose from. Hopefully the 2009 release will contain better material.

The first ever Asian residing in Asia to ever chart on my English chart. Unfortunately, none of her Mandarin hits will appear on my other countdown.

13. Paper Planes - MIA [Alternative Hip-hop]

Whoever likes this will agree that the best parts are the gunshots and the cash register ringing.

Touching and very well-delivered.

11. Violet Hill - Coldplay [Alternative Rock]

Awesome song, but the original MV was disappointing.

Captivating, right from the first note.

08. Disturbia - Rihanna [R&B]

Catchy, and an amazingly creepy MV to top it up. I might adjust the position of this song upwards when I do the decade long chart.

Both MVs are disappointing. Ugh. Of course, the captivating nature of the song still allows it to sit pretty at lucky #7.
